Day-by-day programme

1

Day 1

Arrival in the land of Teranga

Welcome, check-in and dinner at Hotel Marrakis in Mbour.

Day 2

Onward to Sine Saloum

Departure at 10 a.m. for Sine Saloum. Cart ride in Yayem, then pirogue through the Mar Lodj mangroves. Seaside picnic and cultural exchange with customary and religious leaders. Overnight in a Serer village.

Day 3

Hiking and local life

Walk with the municipality’s hiking club, meet local authorities and share time together. Overnight in another Serer village.

Day 4

Fishing in the delta

Spend the day fishing with local fishermen in the Sine Saloum Delta. Overnight in a Lebou village.

Days 5 to 7

Immersion in the Saloum Islands

Discover island traditions, dance and evenings in the bush. With a Fulani community: milk cows, prepare curdled milk and local dishes, and share mint tea. A learning activity around basic arithmetic may be organised with the community. Overnight in a hut with beds and mattresses. Sanitary facilities are outside, with no hot water or electricity; solar lamps are available. As the Fulani are semi-nomadic, the host location may change with the herd’s needs.

Day 8

Return to Ndangane

Return to the hotel in Ndangane, rest and review the journey with a history teacher while discussing Senegal’s different cultures over mint tea.

Day 9

Meeting the Wolof community

Walk through Ndangane village, visit the market and shop for ingredients before cooking a traditional dish with local residents. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 10

Joal-Fadiouth and departure

Morning visit to the shell island with a local guide, discovering a place shared by Muslim and Christian communities. Visit Joal market and its craftspeople, then transfer to the airport.
